Old-time New Brunswick Axe

The axe next to the Gransfors Bruks American Felling Axe.

This axe was received from a relative. It was originally my Grandfather's axe; he was an experienced fisherman, hunter, and paddler, spending most of his life in southern New Brunswick. This axe would have been used in his prime, and likely received between the 1940s and 1960s. As you can see, a later user of this axe mushroomed the pole but I think it will still be a good axe.

It appears to be similar to a Maine pattern, or the Swedish military axes. There are a few spots with green paint remaining on the axe head.

This is the stamp on the axe, an 'S'.

Here the axe is shown in comparison to the 36" Gransfors American Felling Axe. The haft is notably thinner.

I would estimate that the axe is close to 4 pounds as it is noticeably heavier than the Gransfors.
